LONG TERM EXHIBITIONS

FROM THE FUR TO THE HAT. THE MAGICAL WORLD OF HATS

The long term exhibition is divided in seven different areas, distributed by three floors. Each area represents a different production moment presenting not only the machinery, tools, raw materials and sub-products but also testimonies from hatters that worked with those materials.

Given that the visits in the Hat Museum are multi-sensorial, this exhibition offers the visitors prime materials and the resulting products from different fabrication moments that can be seen, touched, smelled… and felt. Because sound is one of the most important elements in a factory environment, along the different sections of the exhibition the visitor experiences a sound ambience similar to machinery and tools still in working.

In the final moment of this visit it is even possible to see the finishing process of a hat. At her workbench, Mrs. Deolinda, a former worker of the Empresa Industrial de Chapelaria, finishes the hats that will be sold at the museum shop while explains to the visitors the different stages of her work.
