Temporary Exhibition

The Hatter’s Labor Movement

The hatters' labor movement stood out, from an early age, for its organization, class consciousness and capacity of collective intervention, occupying a unique place in the history of work in Portugal. Based on this legacy, the Hat Museum presents an exhibition dedicated to the experiences, struggles and forms of organization of workers in the industry. Crossing labor press, historic documentation and memories of factory work, the exhibition highlights practices of resistance and the contribution of hatters to the construction of a fairer world of work, calling the habitants of S. João da Madeira to recognize-as heirs of a past built in factories, in labor gestures and labor struggles across generations.
