“Harvy Santos. Eight Seasons” is the first exhibition of the new program season of the Hat Museum dedicated, in 2018, to the subject “Creating between worlds. From head to toe”. Harvy Santos is a young hat designer and headpieces that, presently, lives in London. Born in the Phillipines, Harvy Santos is influenced by a diverse set of cultural and religious dinamics, such as the emotional Marian processions of Catholic devotion that end up dictating his own way of being and seeing the world. But avant-garde high fashion, pop culture, punk rock and drag performers are also inspirational elements that Harvy fuses with the more traditional elements of his origins. His pieces combine exquisite beauty with a cheeky theatricality in such a way that, today, he is considered as one of the most promising hat designers of our days. With this exhibition, Portugal welcomes this designer’s exceptionally creative work for the first time. Divided into 8 different collections, the exhibition showcases 81 hats produced between 2014 and 2017. ABOUT HARVY SANTOS | His artistic career began in Dance having trained at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Dance School. Later on he integrated the Junior Ballet Company of Philipines. In 1997 he entered the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts were he graduated and developed his professional ballet dancer career for six seasons. However, Harvy Santos fascination to the Fashion world led him to create and produce several costumes and headpieces for important ballet performances such as Paquita or Swan Lake and, even, for some television productions. In 2005, he left dance behind and devoted himself to design. From 2008, he specialized in the production of hats and headpieces. In the following year he entered in the notorious Kensington and Chelsea College and graduated with distinction in the Millinery course. Harvy Santos apprenticed with some of the world’s best milliners, such as Noel Stewart and Stephen Jones, creating several pieces for public figures like Kylie Minogue or Lady Gaga, and for several renowned designers, such as Thom Browne, Giles Deacon, Marc Jacobs and John Galliano. Winner of numerous awards, in 2013 Harvy Santos was considered Hat Designer of the Year by Hat Magazine’s. He also integrates Headonism, a British Fashion Council initiative intended to promote young designers and he features regularly in the Royal Ascot style guide. His pieces are used by influential Pop divas as Hebe Tien or Lady Gaga.
On October 15, the Hat Museum inaugurated the exhibition "Please, don’t eat Maor Zabar’s hats". Maor Zabar is an Israeli hat designer whose pieces stand out for their originality and eccentricity and whose main source of inspiration is his life story and personal experience as a fashion designer and costume designer for the theatre. Each hat, made of felt, natural linen or delicate silks, is carefully crafted, sewn and artistically painted by hand to give rise to what Maor Zabar calls "Perfect Creation". Insects, flowers, food, toys or popular stories are just a few of his collections and each one takes on broad styles and facets ranging from realism to parody. This exhibition will be open until March 31, 2018.
The Hat Museum and the Shoe Museum present the 4th and last round table of the cycle "Fashion Industry. Fashion Art" which will be attended by the extraordinary Israeli designers Maor Zabar (hats) and Kobi Levi (shoes). Open to the public, this round table aims to approach the fashion theme both as an industrial sector and as an artistic expression. The designers will present their creative process, their professional career and their experiences in the international fashion market. Admission is free but subject to prior enrolment via email (museu.chapelaria@gmail.com) or phone (+351 256 201 680).

The Shoe Museum and the Hat Museum present, in 2017, four success stories. More than mere ’fairy tales’ these are the true stories of young designers whose talent and entrepreneurial ability have taken their creations to travel the world, whether in the head and feet of celebrities or in the exhibition halls of several museums. We speak of ANASTASIA RADEVICH (Canada), PABLO AND MAYAYA (Spain), KOBI LEVI and MAOR ZABAR (both from Israel). Under the theme "In a fairy tale. From head to toe ", this program cycle will bring to S. João da Madeira several cultural and pedagogical activities that include temporary exhibitions of international artists and designers, workshops, seminars or round tables, creative workshops, thematic visits, meetings with artists, amongst others, which aim to highlight the idea of "magic worlds" associated with two industries of great cultural and economic relevance in the region, hat and shoe production. The great objective of the two museums’ programming is to highlight the creative and spectacular dimensions of these two industrial sectors, showing that art and culture, creativity and business can go hand in hand.
