Celebrating the International Museum Day

01 June 2016

Celebrating the International Museum Day

Between 14th and 21st of May, the Hat Museum celebrated the International Museum Day and received more that 1500 visitors.
The celebrations started in the morning of the 14th of May with the thematic visit “Cultural Landscapes”, about local personalities that contributed to the development of S. João da Madeira.
The route started at the Hat Museum with the visit “A city of hats” and followed outdoors with a tour to many of the historical buildings of the city as Quinta dos Oliveiras, Quinta do Rei da Farinha,. Quinta dos Condes and many many others.
In that same afternoon, the Hat Museum opened its new temporary exhibition - UILLA SANCTO IOANNE QUE DICENT DEMATEIRA. This exhibition celebrated at the same time the International Museum Day (18th May), City Day (16th May) and the 90th anniversary of the town’s Independence.
On this opening the Hat Museum received the Coro de Câmara de S. João da Madeira in a brilliant performance.
Between 14th and 21st of may, the Educational Service of the Hat Museum conducted 36 guided tours to more than 1000 visitors.
On the European Museum Night, 21st of may, the Hat Museum was open from 10h00 to 00h00 and conducted several thematic visits to many groups.
The night started with a thematic dinner organised by Fábrica dos Sentidos, the museum restaurant and, by 22h00, started the theatrical performance “O Último Turno dos Unhas Negras”, based on João da Silva Correia novel "Unhas Negras". This performance was possible due to all 35 actors from the following theater groups “A Bem Dizer”, “Anim’art”, “Associação ÉBom Viver”, “Cultura Viva”, “Tepas”, “TOJ” and “Troupe”. This memorable and emotional moment was only possible thanks to the commitment of these actors and their ditrectors.
Therefore the Hat Museum would like to thank everyone that contributed for this celebration, from the colleagues of the Municipality to the theatre groups and city's associations and, at last, to those who visited us and took part of our activities and helped, through social networks, to promote our program.
It was your support and availability that allowed us to fulfil our celebration!
