Municipality of S. João da Madeira and University of Aveiro sign collaboration protocol

On December 13, 2023, a collaboration protocol was signed between the Municipality of S. João da Madeira and the University of Aveiro.

 

This cooperation translates into the pedagogical and scientific exchange of teachers, researchers and students in joint programs of graduate and postgraduate training, in the organization of initiatives of academic, cultural and scientific dynamization, and in the development and joint development of research activities and research projects between the Hat Museum, the Shoe Museum and the Deca - Department of Art Communication of the University of Aveiro. 

 

At this time protocol, which took place in the Shoe Museum, were present the Mayor of S. João da Madeira, Jorge Sequeira, the Councilwoman of Education, Irene Guimarães, the head of the Office of the Presidency, José Fonseca, as well as the Director of the Hat Museum, Tânia Reis, and the Director of the Shoe Museum, Sara Paiva.

 

The University of Aveiro was represented by João Veloso, vice-rector for cooperation with society, Ana Veloso, director of Deca, Cláudia Albino, for the ID+ Department, and professor Pedro Carvalho de Almeida.

HAT MUSEUM SIGNED PROTOCOL OF NATIONAL PROGRAM PROMUSEUS 2023

The Directorate General for Cultural Heritage approved the application of the Hat Museum to the "Promuseus 2023" program, and on 26 October the protocol formalizing this support was signed, for the implementation of a project to reformulate the permanent exhibition area of this institution, aiming to introduce improvements in accessibility and inclusion.

 

The signing ceremony, attended by the director of the Hat Museum, Tânia Reis, took place at the Navy Museum, located in the Jerónimos Monastery, in Lisbon, with the presence of the Secretary of State for Culture, Isabel Cordeiro, and the Director General of Cultural Heritage, João Carlos dos Santos.

 

The Hat Museum was one of 40 that, nationally, saw approved the projects that applied for this year’s ProMuseus contest.

 

This is a program of financial support for the museums of the Portuguese Network of Museums not dependent on the central administration and that aims to contribute to the qualification of the national museological fabric.

CONSERVATION WORKSHOP

It is already on October 9 that the Headgear Museum will host the conservation workshop "Hats: Knowingunderstanding and preserving".

Promoted by the team of the National Costume Museum, this workshop is part of the temporary exhibition of the Hat Museum “Milliners… The Collection of the National Costume Museum”, and its primary objective is to make known the guidelines for good preservation practices this rich and diverse cultural heritage that is the hat, the Museum´s object of study.

THE EUROPEAN HERITAGE DAYS 2023

From the 22nd to the 24th of September, the European Heritage Days are celebrated.

This year, under the theme "Living Heritage", we intend to explore the practices, places and objects that are now part of our cultural heritage and have been transmitted from generation to generation, adapting, but remaining alive and constantly recreated by communities and groups. , adjusting to their changing cultures, landscapes and the places they inhabit.

The Hat Museum joins this initiative with a set of activities for all ages.

FOR A FELT CIRCULAR ECONOMY EORKSHOP

As part of the 2023 European Heritage Days, the Hat Museum presents another felt workshop, on the 23rd of September, at 2 pm.

Promoted by Feltrando Portugal, it aims to raise public awareness of the Circular Economy, Upcycling and Recycling, starting from an industrial waste, uncommon, but very identifying of a region and industry – Felt.

By promoting material reuse practices, it will be possible to highlight the basic principles of the Circular Economy, which also include the recovery of ancient traditions and techniques of “know-how”, through design and innovation.

Based on the experience of Filomena Almeida, promoter of the FELTRAND project, products for everyday use will be created, from home textiles to fashion accessories.

Hat Museum distinguished at the APOM 2023 Awards

On the 26th of May, the Hat Museum was distinguished by APOM - Associação Portuguesa de Museologia, in the Development category.

The APOM 2023 Awards ceremony, held at the Museu do Ar - Pêro Pinheiro, in Sintra, was attended by José Fonseca, Head of the Office of the Presidency, Tânia Reis, Director of the Hat Museum, Luís Stoffel, donor of the goods included in the collection of the museum, and part of the Hat Museum team.

The incorporation concerns the donation that the creator Luís Stoffel made to the Hat Museum, of 77 creations conceived for theatrical productions, fashion and in a pandemic context, which will enrich the collection of the Hat Museum, with regard to the registration of this art in the first decades of the 21st century.

Today, in the temporary exhibition room of the Hat Museum, the signing of the protocol for the donation of the 77 pieces that make up the temporary exhibition "Luís Stoffel. The Millinery Art", with the presence of the Mayor of S. João da Madeira, Jorge Sequeira, the Director of the Museum, Tânia Reis and the designer responsible for these pieces, Luís Stofell.

It was on March 5, 2023 that we announced this donation through our social networks. It was with great happiness that the Museum Team received this precious news from Luís Stoffel. And today, 3 days before the end of this exhibition, we make this union official.

This donation will make it possible to record, for future memory, the art of Portuguese headgear from the 2010s and 2020s, as a production intended essentially for the performing arts - especially revue theater - and events and fashion productions.

It is with great happiness that we share with you the news of the precious donation made to the Museum, consisting of 77 pieces by Luís Stoffel.

This donation will make it possible to record, for future memory, the art of Portuguese headgear from the 2010s and 2020s, as a production intended essentially for the performing arts - especially revue theater - and events and fashion productions.

You can discover all these extraordinary pieces until April 30, in the Temporary Exhibition Room of the Chapelaria Museum.
