In May, the Hat Museum hosted one of the sessions of the Encontros na Moagem conference, which this year focused on the theme “What Is Memory Worth? Bringing Industrial Spaces Back to Life”, promoting reflection on the preservation, rehabilitation, and enhancement of industrial heritage.
The programme began at the Lisbon Museum – Milling Factory, where the Director of the Hat Museum attended the opening session.
The event brought together researchers, architects, museum professionals, and heritage specialists to discuss a range of experiences and projects developed in Portugal and Spain.
On 22 May, participants were welcomed to São João da Madeira for a session that included an overview of the architectural journey of the Hat Museum, from its initial design to its completion, followed by a guided tour of the Museum and the regenerated Oliva industrial area.
We hosted this event with a strong sense of responsibility. As co-organisers, we were pleased to contribute to an initiative that fostered the exchange of knowledge, debate, and reflection on industrial heritage, reinforcing the importance of its preservation and appreciation for local communities and future generations.
